Description of activities

Neonatology workplace logically provides for the care of pregnant women and demands, which are connected with the concentration of pathological pregnancies from all regions of the Czech Republic. On simple intensive care are concentrated newborns with failing vital function, which demand special approach to care and diagnostics.

Therapeutics program of workplace

  • care of newborns with very low and extremely low birth weight
  • care of immature newborns
  • care of newborns with congenital developmental defects
  • care of critically ill newborns with malfunctioning vital function
  • care of full term physiological newborns
  • care of newborns with severe malformations and newborn jaundice

Neonatology department workplace

Lying-in part of newborn workplace

Neonatal workplace is responsible requirment systemic differences for the differential care of newborns and is a member of the following department:

  • Department of anaestiology-resucitation care (RES),which have 8mi beds reserved for the critical ill newborns with weak vital function and using among standard method of care the next exceptional methods (unconventional methods of artificial lung ventilations, long term external membrane oxygenation, hydraulic ventilation among,etc.)
  • The department of intensive care (JIP) with 12 beds delivers resuscitative care with the possibility of long term ventilation support on 4 beds.
  • The department of intermediary care (OPN2) with the department rooming in for premature newborns and newborns released from intensive care have available 22 beds. The concentration of further patients with heavy formed newborn jaundice and full term newborn with minor defects of post partum adaptation.
  • The department of physiological newborns (P1N, P2N, P4N) (a total of 58 beds) offers care for full term newborns according to the choice of mothers in the form of full rooming-in, daily rooming in and department of care of the newborn. The basic philosophy of the department is the maximum satisfaction of the mother and newborn. The department furthermore provides service in above standard rooms with enlarged hotel services and with the possibility to accomadate father or other relative.

Outpatient part of newborn workplace

The granting of specialized care selected for high risk newborns and granting on the part of beds. The specialized ambulance are concentrated on the problems of neurology, psychology, neurophysiology, ultrasound diagnostics and rehabilitation.

Results of care of newborns

In the care of full term and preterm newborns, newborns with congenital birth defects and critical illnesses of newborns reach the neonatal workplace long term results comparable with advanced world centers. The findings of care of newborns are frequently published in professional journals. The newborn department is of high rating among the public in Czech medicine.

Scientific research activity

In the neonatology workplace is resolved row of grant assignments of the agency of minister of health CR and grant agents of CR in the area of acute respiratory defects, congenital birth defects, long term follow up of high risk newborns and immunity mechanisms of immature newborns. The results of research are of high value in domestic and foreign professional journals and are frequently presented at international meetings.
