Description of activities

UPMD central laboratories are constructed from a complex of several workplaces of various departments. They provide for practically all the necessary examinations for the clinical workplaces with small exceptions such as microbiological examinations and some serological assessments. (virology)

In the last years frequently each year the spectrum of examinations is broadened according to the demands of each clinical workplace and according to developments in modern medicine.

Besides routine examinations, the central laboratories also participate in solving a series of research objectives.

The focus of individual laboratories arises from the needs of the gynecology-obstetrics department, neonatology section, and specialized ambulances in the adult and child section of the institute.

Advantages of the local laboratories

Location of the laboratory is in the main building with rapid availability of results from clinical sections.

The biochemical and hematological laboratory operates continuously and are able to satisfy the demands of doctors of clinical departments and ambulances almost immediately.

All the laboratories create one complimentary whole with one head, each part of the laboratory always have a university educated chief with high academic qualifications for the oversight of his part of the laboratory.

The laboratories are connected to the hospital information system with the ability to obtain results on UPMD network computers, from where doctors can immediately obtain results of provided examinations.

The Referencial laboratory of diagnostics for detection of pregnancy also has its seat in UPMD, which is an independent unit with national function.
