Description of activity

Anesthesiology department provides:

1. operative gynecological-oncology and obstetric operations (surgery)
2. obstetric analgesia /painlessness/
3. assistance at IVF center operations
4. assistance of consultation activity in complicated cases in the department of intensive care

The department uses high standard techniques and anaethesia instruments and precise infusion pumps, There are a wide range of medicaments, anaesthesiology utilities and instruments readily available.

The department emphasizes the best cooperation between doctor-anesthesiologist and the patient. The first contract the anesthesiologist has with the patient is at the procedure prior to the operation.The anaesthesiologist takes up the documentation of the patient, with the type and extent of the operative procedure. The day prior to surgery the doctor visits the patient in order to discuss the pre-medication. The method of narcosis is discussed in detail with regard to the patients wishes.

Continual epidural anaesthesia is provided for spontaneous delivery in indicated cases.

Selected statistics:

• A total of 4100 cases requiring anaesthesia and analgesia were performed in our institute in the year 2004.
• 1400 total anaesthesia and 550 regional anaesthesia at large surgeries.
• Furthermore there where 815 Caesarian sections performed, of which 49% under regional anaesthesia.
• Epidural analgesia at delivery where executed 30.4% from the total number of spontaneous deliveries.
• Remaining operations represent short-term anesthesias in minor gynecological operations.
